A DRUNKEN man threatened to kill a taxi office operator and police when they arrived to arrest him, a court heard.
Anthony Hughes, 49, of Lancaster Road, Morecambe, had earlier pleaded guilty to threatening Robert Carr and WPC Smith and appeared at Lancaster Magistrates Court for sentencing.
Prosecuting, Rob Smith said: "Mr Carr was a base operator for a taxi
firm based in Morecambe and was working around 1pm on August 28.
"He answered the phone to a man who said his name was Tony. The man was shouting and slurring his words and Mr Carr couldn't understand what he was saying.
"He asked the man to repeat himself, and then Hughes started to make threatening remarks, saying 'I'm going to come down there and kill you'.
"Shortly afterwards the defendant went to the taxi office and started banging his hands on the glass screen and spitting.
"He shouted 'I'm going to do you in.'
"Mr Carr recognised the man as the caller 'Tony' from earlier and called police."
Police traced Hughes' mobile phone number from call records at the taxi office and went to his address.
PC Brooksbank spoke with him and it was obvious he was still drunk and acting aggressively.
When told he was going in the police van, Hughes shouted "I'll go and get my weapons. I'll kick your heads in."
Hughes then tried to push WPC Smith with his shoulder and tried to punch her with his fist.
He was then arrested and said he had been under the influence of alcohol since he woke up that day.
Defending, Kevin Bamber told the court that he had been drinking to excess for 10 years since the death of his mother and had not received any assistance with his drink problems.
He said: "He had no recollection of events.
"He apologises to all concerned and has cut down significantly on his use of alcohol."
Magistrates sentenced Hughes to a 12 month supervision order and ordered him to pay £50 compensation to PC Smith and Robert Carr.
