A DECISION on Sainsbury's proposed new store on Christie Park is expected in the next two months.
Their planning application was submitted in April and Lancaster City Council¹s Planning Committee will meet later in the summer to determine the outcome of the proposals.
The Christie Park store would include 40,000 sq ft of sales space and creat
e around 350 new full and part-time jobs.
Jo Try, regional development executive for Sainsbury's said: "Our recent financial results demonstrate that Sainsbury's is in a very strong position and we are totally committed to developing a new store on the Christie Park site, subject to gaining planning permission.
"Public support for the proposals has been overwhelming, with 85% of those who have returned feedback forms agreeing with the plans."
Sainsbury's like-for-like sales for the 12 weeks to 13 June were up by 7.8%, while sales in the financial year 2008-09 were up 5.7%, meaning the company has achieved growth for the fourth year in a row.
Work recently started on Morecambe's new stadium at Westgate, meaning the club are on track to move to their new home ready for the start of the 2010/11 season.
Jo Try continued: "We are delighted to see work start on Morecambe's new stadium at Westgate and hope the new facilities will benefit the local community as well as the football club."
