SIGNPOSTS community res-ource organisation is planning a high-quality community building next to Poulton Children's Centre in Morecambe.
However, the proposals have received mixed reactions from Poulton residents and members of the residents association, some of whom say that while in principle they aren't against the plans, already existing parking problems in nearby streets will be
made worse if the plans go ahead.

At present, the plan is to provide a building in the grounds of the existing children's centre, to consider the possibility of extending onto adjacent council owned land and to create an innovative, high quality community provision which will have significant local impact.

Pam Beswick, chief executive of Signposts, said: "We now need to establish support for the project, establish a steering group to work with partners on the practicalities of the site acquisition and the development, and seek funding.

"It would not be far short of £1million for the proposal."

Peter Coatsworth, a nearby resident, said: "It seems to be an awful lot on what is a very small space.

"There is not enough parking here on Oxford Street or in the area.
"An entrance to the centre on Oxford Street would be a problem."

Beryl Spelling, a Poulton resident, said: "The police, who unfortunately couldn't attend this meeting, asked me to put forward their concerns.

"Oxford Street is fully parked up on both sides of the road and there is difficulty turning round at the top."

At present, no planning application has been submitted for the site.
