A LONG-TIME servant of Morecambe Grammar School has died at the age of 101.
Eveline Edith Buck, a teacher at the school from World War Two until her retirement in the 1970s, passed away on March 2 in Cumbria.

Miss Buck was born in Salford in 1907 and was educated at Manchester High School for girls and Edinburgh University, reading English and graduating with an MA degree.

After a few years of teaching in Suffolk, she was appointed to the staff at Morecambe Grammar School during World War Two, where in addition to teaching English she joined and helped with many school activities.

Because male teachers were away on war service these included coaching boys at cricket – as a schoolgirl she had played herself.

Miss Buck will be remembered by many generations of former school pupils of Morecambe Grammar School for her boundless enthusiasm for all aspects of school life but perhaps principally for her successful efforts as producer/director of a succession of acclaimed school plays.

She rose to be head of department and finally to senior mistress, although after retiring she joined the staff at St Martin's College for a period.

She enjoyed travelling widely and was an enthusiastic gardener – as a prize-winning grower of sweet peas.

Funeral services have been arranged for this Friday (March 14) at 2pm at Cartmel Priory and 3.30pm at Lancaster and Morecambe Crematorium.

What's your view on the use of CCTV?
More the merrier - if you've done nothing wrong, you've nothing to worry about
Only appropriate in certain crime-spot areas
I'd be very worried if we had too many
