Your eyes are not deceiving you – this really is wrestling legend Kurt Angle wearing Morecambe’s championship belt.

The former Olympic champion is seen holding the title of Morecambe-based Alpha Omega Wrestling.

Stixx and Chris Ridgeway, seen here with Stallion, will fight for the vacant Alpha Omega Wrestling title this Saturday at Morecambe Winter Gardens.

Stixx and Chris Ridgeway, seen here with Stallion, will fight for the vacant Alpha Omega Wrestling title this Saturday at Morecambe Winter Gardens.

But before wrestling fans get too excited, Angle isn’t the champion – he was ‘looking after’ the belt for the winner of Saturday night’s main event at the Winter Gardens.

The former WWE and TNA Champion was at a meet-and-greet in Manchester where AOW promoters asked him to pose with their championship and Kurt was happy to oblige.

The real champion will be crowned when British stars ‘Heavyweight House of Pain’ Stixx and ‘The Priority’ Chris Ridgeway meet for the vacant title at ‘Fightmare Before Christmas’.

“Kurt was absolutely fantastic and wished both men luck,” said Kieran Engelke, AOW promoter.

“It should be a great match because the veteran Stixx hasn’t lost in Morecambe for nearly eight years but Ridgeway is the brash young up-and-comer who believes he can beat him.

“It’s the Klitschko v Tyson Fury of the wrestling world!”

In the other half of Saturday’s double main event, Morecambe’s own ‘Psychotic Warrior’ Johnny Phere will fight ‘One Man Riot’ Craig Kollins in a highly anticipated rematch.

Phere and Kollins battled to a dramatic double knockout at the Winter Gardens in October.

The brutal match ended when both men crashed through a table courtesy of a top rope ‘superplex’ move.

Johnny then challenged Kollins to a rematch to be fought under ‘Three Phases of Phere’ rules.

This will be a best of three falls match where the first fall can be won only by submission, the second fall is pinfalls count anywhere in the building, and the third and deciding fall – if required – will be a Last Man Standing situation where the winner must knock his opponent out for the 10 count.

Other matches on the show include a rematch for the AOW Tag Team Titles between champions Big Sexxxy and controversial Scottish faction The Referendum.

Viper will defend her women’s championship against Nikki Storm and Lana Austin in a three-way bout.

Danny Hope and Joey Hayes will team up to battle James Drake and Barricade in tag team action.

And the massive Cyanide will go for revenge on the obnoxious Bubblegum.

Doors open at 6pm, 5.30pm for VIP ticket holders.

Tickets on the door cost £12 for adults, £9 children/students, £36 for a family of four. They are cheaper if bought in advance through the website www.aowuk.com .
