The over-the-top stars of professional wrestling are ready to rumble at an unlikely new venue - the home of Morecambe Football Club.
An all-action family wrestling show is set to storm into the Globe Arena on Bank Holiday Sunday, August 25.
But before battle can commence, Shrimps boss Jim Bentley has asked one of the biggest wrestling stars to show his players the ropes.
Jim has drafted in Morecambe-based bruiser Johnny Phere to help ‘toughen up’ his squad for the season.
Apart from piledriving and headlocking his foes inside the ring, Hutchinson also runs regular wrestling classes for budding body slammers at Regent Park Studios in the West End.
Here he teaches all the moves and holds you might see on WWE wrestling on Sky TV, putting trainees through an exhausting circuit training regimen.
A qualified physical instructor, Johnny intends to give the Morecambe footballers a taste of his unique fitness drills when he visits the Shrimps’ camp next week.
Real name Jamie Hutchinson, Johnny goes by the ring name of ‘The Psychotic Warrior’ so he’s not likely to be intimidated by hard men of the football field like Morecambe striker Kev Ellison!
“No other training can touch this, it will improve the players’ strength, power, speed, agility, balance, co-ordination, flexibility, endurance and mental toughness,” said Phere.
“I’ll be showing them some of my ‘animal fitness’ conditioning movements, as well as a grapple drill and if possible, a few takedowns.”
You can see Johnny Phere wrestle at Morecambe Football Club on the ‘Battle of the Brits’ family event on August 25. Also on the bill will be ‘Heavyweight House of Pain’ Stixx, Craig Kollins, The Creeper, Stallion and Luke Baxter. Doors open at 6pm for a 6.30pm start. The show is suitable for all ages.
