Marriage proposal at Globe Arena

YOU’VE heard of the romance of the FA Cup and an undying love for one’s football team, but a Morecambe woman took things one step further last week.

Lynsey Wells and James Gardner got engaged at the Globe Arena on Valentine’s Day after the legal cashier proposed to her man in the match-day programme for Morecambe FC’s match against Macclesfield.

However Lynsey, 30, confesses to not being much of a football fan herself and chose the unusual method of popping the question as she knew she’d get her boyfriend of nearly three years’ attention.

She said: “I proposed like that because he spends half his life there! He’s an avid football supporter and goes to every home match and quite a few away games.

“But I’m not really a fan, I watch it if I have to.”

The couple, who met through a mutual friend and live on Dennis Grove, plan to get married in the summer of 2013, but have not set a date.
