X Factor star Paul Akister sang in front of 6,000 fellow Lancastrians at the city’s Christmas lights switch on.
The soul man, who was so close to reaching the final 12 of the ITV show, received a rapturous welcome as he arrived on the Market Square stage.
Then he belted out some classic covers including Sam Cooke’s ‘A Change Is Gonna Come’ and ‘Love Me Again’ by John Newman.
Paul was eliminated by his mentor Louis Walsh, who preferred to take Luke Friend, Nicholas McDonald and Sam Callahan to live shows.
But after hearing our man in such fine voice on Sunday, this question remains. Why, Louis? Why?
