The phrase ‘an idyllic country retreat’ may be a cliche but it’s the perfect description for Ox Pasture Hall.
This is the ideal place to enjoy a short break getting away from it all, where you will be exceptionally well looked after, while surrounded by acres of sprawling Yorkshire countryside.
Turn off onto Lady Ediths Drive by Scarborough Hospital, and you will first of all enjoy a two-mile journey up a winding rural lane to your destination, a 1901 restored, modernised and extended former farm house with spectacular views across a lake.
The 32 bedooms are individually given Yorkshire place names. Ours was ‘Richmond’.
It’s worth splashing out a little extra on a suite, especially if it’s a special occasion. Ox Pasture Hall suites are like mini apartments, with a spacious en suite bathroom with ‘wet room’ style shower, living area and king size bed.
Extra luxury touches include snug ‘his and hers’ dressing gowns and fans of the hit BBC comedy Miranda will be delighted to learn they even do a turndown service!
Afternoon tea is available on arrival and why not? Spoil yourself! Ox Pasture Hall’s afternoon tea is a three-tier plate with scrumptious sandwiches, some in smoked salmon and creamed cheese, scones with clotted cream and a delicious selection of cakes. Ideal for a 3pm snack, if you have the appetite because it’s filling!
The evening meal continues the theme of excellence in the award winning Courtyard Restaurant. Magnificent gourmet dining, the food is to die for, and is varied with attentive service. Breakfast is also superb.
Ox Pasture Hall has a separate building for its functions so wedding parties can enjoy their day in private which means the other guests don’t feel encroached.
And to cap it all, the rarified seaside air of Scarborough is just down the road.
Wonderful place to stay. Highly recommended.
