Diane Shaw is “probably the best female soul singer in the UK” who “takes the Motown songbook and rampages through it”.
Praise indeed from promoter Steve Middlesbrough who will bring Diane to Morecambe again for his ‘Motown Magic’ festival this weekend.
Motown fans can see Diane’s take on classics like Band of Gold, Baby Love and Needle in a Haystack on Sunday afternoon (August 11) at the Platform from noon to 5pm.
While Diane has been a Motown Magic regular over the years, this time she’s bringing a full band with her.
“We’re really excited about that,” said Steve. “She plays with this band all over Europe and is highly rated by everybody in the music business. She takes Motown and makes it sound like it’s new, as if it’s fresh out of the box this week.”
Also on the Platform bill is another festival favourite, Lennie Michaels, who performs covers of The Drifters, Marvin Gaye, The Temptations and many more.
Local act Blue Juice with Laura and Tracey Austin’s Dance Factory completes the lineup.
Motown Magic kicks off on Friday night (August 9) at the York Hotel.
DJs Steve Middlesbrough and Tony Crookes will play the best in Northern Soul.
Then on Saturday night the festival moves to the new Imperial on Regent Road for music from top 12-piece band The Groove Cutters.
Steve thanked the Arndale Centre and Morecambe Town Council for their support.
