The Queen’s Guide to the Sands will have an appropriate job at this weekend’s Morecambe Sandcastle Festival.
Cedric Robinson MBE will judge Sunday’s sandcastle-building competition at the seventh annual fun weekend.
The contest and most other family activities across the two days (June 15 and 16) will be held on the beach near the Eric Morecambe statue.
Cedric (right), who this year marks 50 years as the Queen’s official guide to the sands of Morecambe Bay, will also hold a book signing near the Platform on Saturday at 2pm and chat about his life with a talk at 3.15pm. Places for the talk can be pre-booked by calling 01524 582808.
Also returning to the festival will be sand sculptors Sand in your Eye.
Children’s entertainer Harvey Rush, Lancaster City Council’s activity team, donkey rides and Samba band Batala, mud-dipping with the RSPB and a vintage village hall tearoom in the Winter Gardens (Sunday only) will be other highlights.
The Super Sandcastle Competition takes place on Fathers’ Day and is free to enter. Teams can comprise up to four members and there are two categories - families/under 12s and an open category. Registration takes place on the Sunday morning between 9.45am and 10.45am and registration forms are available from local Visitor Information Centres.
There is a £50 cash prize for the winners of each category and runners up prizes too. Call 01524 582808 for more information.
