Yolanda Ottonello, whose fascinating life story was covered in The Visitor several years ago, sent me some beautiful photos including this one of her uncle Giuldo Agosti.

beautiful photos including this one of her uncle Giuldo Agosti.

Giuldo was the head waiter at the Winter Gardens when this was taken (he is pictured with female members of
staff).

He’d gone there to work for Yolanda’s dad Louie Prada Snr. Later Mr Agosti was head waiter at the Midland and ran the Royal Station Hotel at Carnforth.

“Dad took over at the Winter Gardens restaurant just after the war,” said Yolanda.

“The restaurant has been kitted out as a station for the RAF during the war. At one point they were doing 5,000 covers a day. Coach parties were coming in non-stop at the back of the Winter Gardens.”

Those were the days indeed!

And Yolanda herself later worked in hospitality when the Prada family ran the Strathmore Hotel.
