After we asked for your memories of the old Morecambe Carnival, Galen Ford got in touch. Galen was connected to the carnival for many years, starting as a young girl participating, then later as Carnival Queen and in 1970, Miss Morecambe Carnival Queen of Great Britain.

Later she joined the Carnival committee and became secretary and chairman. Her mum Betty Ford and sister Gillian Coleman were also amongst the organisers.

“For many years during the time I was chairman I walked the parade myself wearing different fancy dress costumes - a clown and Carmen Miranda being two that I remember!” said Galen.

“In later years we had guest appearances by various Gladiators from the then popular television show including Wolf and Hunter.”

Our picture from the archives shows Hunter giving a peck on the cheek to young Chelsea Williamson at the Morecambe Carnival in 1997.
