It’s the one they wanted and they’ve finally got it!
After 20 years the performing rights for the musical ‘Grease’ have been released and a Lancaster amateur dramatics company have successfully bid to perform the show at the Grand Theatre.
LADOS (Lancaster Amateur Dramatic and Operatic Society) is now gearing up for a week of T-Birds and Pink Ladies where Grease is the word.
Newcomers to LADOS Charlie Edwards and Amy-Jo Clough (above) play the lead roles of Danny and Sandy.
Charlie plans to have his quiff done each night and was told by the barber when he enquired that he had received a similar request 20 years before.
Turns out when John Beamer, who played the part in 1993, did exactly same thing. And John is also in this show as DJ Vince Fontein.
The show has been co-produced by Sarah Pye and Suzanne Ward, both of whom played leading roles in 1993 (Rizzo and Frenchie).
Suzanne’s mum is Peggy Brierley, who produced the show in 1993.
Other cast members include Glen Hanmer, James Shields, committee chairman Sylvia Rogerson and secretary Audrey Tarney.
Grease is a musical that pretty much everyone knows and with classic tunes like ‘Summer Nights’, and ‘You’re the One That I Want’ it’s bound to get feet tappingin the aisles.
Performances run from tonight (September 10) to Saturday (September 14) starting at 7.30pm with an additional Saturday matinee at 2.30pm.
