Vicarious Visions and Activision has breathed new life into an already unique experience with Skylanders Swap Force.
It introduces 16 swappable Skylander figurines which can be mix and matched to create new characters with new abilities. Each figurine is expertly crafted and holds a pose that shows their personalities perfectly.
The game itself plays identical to the previous games Spyros Adventure and Giants however with a refreshing twist, the new ability to jump. This ability was missing in previous games but now it’s here to give the Skylanders franchise a new dimension and a bigger world. It’s essentially an RPG adventure game aimed primarily at children however the darker tone to each of the new characters and the huge array of side quests will appeal to older audiences. Combat feels meaty regardless of which character you pick with both melee attacks and ranged attacks respectively. The ranged however is hit and miss as I had to reposition my character a few times before hitting my target.
Swap Force sees the Skylanders attempt to save Skylands from an erupting magical volcano, guarded by the Elementals, which is suddenly attacked by dark forces. The Skylanders get caught up in the blast from the volcano allowing them the ability to split in two. The story is a delight to play through thanks to the fun character and dialogue which is laden with humour. Visuals have taken a turn for the better too with lush environments and nice animations.
Swap Force brings the Skylanders franchise in a new direction to an already unique experience. The figurines are nicely crafted and the game itself is brilliant for young gamers and older ones alike. Look no further for an ideal present for your child or partner this Christmas. I score Skylanders Swap
