Traditional English food at the Meeting House

SIMPLE, traditional English food is on the menu at Lancaster's new Meeting House Restaurant.

With a range of good, locally-sourced produce on offer, the restaurant has enjoyed steady business since opening on February 9.

Co-owner and chef Daniel Willoughby, formerly a sous chef at Lancaster House Hotel, says it's been his dream to open his own restaurant. So when the chance arose at the Meeting House Lane venue, he grabbed it with both hands.

"I know the area quite well and I've always wanted to have a restaurant locally and so far it's exceeded all our expectations," says Daniel.

"Everyone's been really happy and people have said what a nice, friendly atmosphere it is here."

Daniel, who could have filled the venue twice over on Valentine's Day, says the restaurant's location is fantastic.

Out-of-towners and locals alike have been keen to sample the restaurant's food, which includes local specialities such as Morecambe Bay potted shrimps and Glasson Smokehouse smoked haddock.

Desserts include a locally-sourced cheeseboard and Andrew Bowker's sticky toffee pudding and the restaurant even has its own Atkinson's blend of coffee.

Those who want to pop in for a quick coffee and snack will soon be able to take advantage of free internet access, due to be installed.

Sunday lunch is 12.95 for two courses and on Wednesday evenings couples can enjoy three courses and a bottle of wine for 16.95 per person.

n Meeting House Restaurant, Lancaster, is open from Tuesday to Sunday, noon to 2pm and 7pm to 9.30pm.
