Battered mince pies on menu at Heysham chippy

Fish and chip shop owner John Wild is up to his tricks again with his culinary frying delicacies.

John, the owner of the award winning Tarnbrook Chippy, on Kingsway estate in Heysham, first came to our notice when he was spotted battering and deep frying Christmas pudding up at his last chippy in Bolton-le-Sands.

Since then, John has moved down to a small and high tech looking chippy in Heysham.

He has been ‘pudding’ this Christmas treat on the menu every year since 2002 but has decided to up the game.

John said: “I am frying the old favourites cod, plaice, haddock, hake, Whitby scampi, calamari day in and out, so we’d like to experiment and have fun.

“The Christmas pudding had been an old favourite but I thought it was time for something new and daring.

“My wife Hilary who does a lot of baking and cake making, said why not try mince pies? So here we are.”

John has put his battered mince pies on the menu for £1 each with all the proceeds going to RNLI Morecambe lifeboat crew, who are amongst his many customers and his favourite good cause.

He said: “I hope you will support the lifeboat crew by coming down to Tarnbrook chippy and trying a mince pie or two or just even making a donation into the box on the counter for the RNLI.

“Remember folks, a battered Christmas mince pie is just for Christmas - not for life!”
