James Jones’ epic drama of army life in the calm before Pearl Harbour comes to Penguin Modern Classics for the first time this month.
Previously censored scenes and explicit language have been restored in this publication of ‘From Here to Eternity’ – a magnificent but brutal classic of a soldier’s life.
Winner of the 1952 National Book Award and one of Modern Library’s 100 Best Novels of the 20th Century, it has sold millions of copies worldwide.
In 1953, it was made into a famous Hollywood film starring Burt Lancaster, Mongomery Clift and Deborah Kerr.
The Penguin release coincides with a major new musical of ‘From Here to Eternity’ by Tim Rice and Stuart Brayson which previews at the Shaftesbury Theatre, London, from September 30.
