Blues Festival returns

THE fourth Morecambe Blues Festival offered the best in blues-orientated music over three nights and a day.

Krissy Mathews' Band got the show on the road on Thursday night at The Platform with Chantel McGregor and her band headlining. The highlight of her rock-based set was a full-length version of 'Voodoo Chile' with the lady herself on lead guitar and vocals.

Friday night at The Carleton saw The Section raising the spirits after England's World Cup disaster, then it was back to The Platform on Saturday afternoon for a full day of music.

First on was Tantrum, a young band who have recently signed to a Los Angeles record company, then The Will Tang Band, as ever professional but different, followed by 13-year-old Alex McKown with his band for another crowd-stopping performance by this young guitar player.

Saturday night saw Courtland Breser and Richard Law taking the Festival back to the deep South, their set comprising numbers from the Mississippi Delta and Chicago Blues.

Scotland's Dave Acari returned to Blueswater, the audience appreciating his alternative blues style, but the best was still to come.

Dr Truth was the final act of the night and of this year's Blueswater. Their set, lasting close to two hours, was a brilliant fusion of blues, soul and jazz funk. Awesome.

Kalimba would like to thank the sponsors, Morecambe Town Council and The Arndale Centre, The Platform, The Carleton and the fans who supported the festival.
