MR Walters' letter last week (Urban sprawl now threatens seafront') is indicative of the negativity that has held back Morecambe when it comes to innovation.
We need to end this knee-jerk reaction that has been going on in recent weeks in regard to the plans submitted by Urban Splash and instead welcome the fact that we are seeing Morecambe being transformed into a futuristic town.
The impact on the vi
ew and on the ambience of the promenade will be minimal. Unfortunately, we have a segment of the population of Morecambe, including senior councillors, that has a less than objective point of view when it comes to new build.
These proposals will create business opportunities for the town as well as enhancing the economic development. We are creating a hub of residential and retail development along the promenade – surely this has got to be good news for Morecambe.
Coun Archer was acting inappropriately in accordance with her role as a cabinet member when she sat in the Arndale encouraging people to sign her petition.
A cabinet member should not be undertaking this line of action especially when the development she was campaigning against was within her portfolio area.
Urban Splash perhaps now needs to promote its proposals to a wider audience.
I would suggest they use the Arndale Centre as a starting point and maybe have a display enabling the public a chance to speak to
representatives of Urban Splash.
