MAY I reply to a few points raised by Ms Alex Addams comments on the promenade proposals?
Firstly, the view. Quite simply, this is the sky, the open space and the light it provides. If the proposed mini-tower blocks are erected, there will be no view from the prom, no matter which side of the prom one cares to stroll. As for the view from
the prom extending for five miles... for how long would this stretch be safe from development?

Building on the prom's sea side would turn it into a mere urban highway, like Euston Road or Broadway.

The development is supposed to be regeneration with mutterings that it will bring business to Morecambe! Exactly what would be regenerated, and what sort of business? What would all the residents of these prestige flats do? Internet banking, on-line bingo calling? Take in each other's washing? Shrimp potting? Chicken farming, toxic waste re-cycling?

As for Evelyn Archer's campaigning... without her intervention, the public would most likely have been kept in the dark about any proposals until they had signed and sealed by compliant bureaucrats. In any case, as a riposte to Evelyn Archer, there is a very simple solution; why not set up a counter-campaign and see how many people would sign a petition in favour of erecting five-storey flats along the prom?

To set the record straight, Evelyn Archer's petition merely invited comment, for or against the proposal.

If there were indeed only a derisory 200 signatories, I wonder what percentage of the comments was in favour of the proposal.
