IN his letter 'Labour pains really hurt' last week, David Morris jumps on the popular bandwagon of blaming the present Government for everything wrong with Britain.
Like so many people, he seems to have a very short political memory.

Yet we should remember that it was the Tories who privatised water supplies which, ever since, have increased in price and are about to go up more – yes, to pay for necessary imp
rovements but also to pay the shareholders' dividends.

Also, it was the Tories who sold off the gas and electricity supplies which are now rocketing in price.

Yes, we would have all paid more because of the international
market prices, but still huge sums are being paid in dividends and managers' bonuses – at great cost to the customer.

Remember too that it was the Tories who sold off British Rail – and what a disaster that has become.

Then the Tories deregulated the buses in Britain, causing a surge in private ownership of cars, congestion on the roads, expensive public transport and the mess that our towns and cities now have to deal with.

It was because the Tories tried to privatise the NHS and a lot of Local Government activities in a dogmatic drive for a free market economy, that public funds (our taxes) have paid a fortune to agencies and to private companies out to make a fast buck from the public.

Many people feel the loss of ward cleaning to private contractors was a factor in the hospital bug horror.

It was the Tories' attack on education that did so much damage to our schools many still haven't recovered.

No, I am not a member of the Labour Party. I do not even support New Labour. But I did work in public service throughout the years of the Thatcher/Major government and saw the terrible damage done by them to our society. I remember!

Vote Conservative? You must be joking!
