Theatre adds up to a very big risk

A NUMBER of fundamental questions need to be asked before the Cabinet agrees to a £12million bid for the restoration of the Winter Gardens, especially when other projects beneficial to the wider community have been thrown to one side.
We need to remember that Sea Change is a government organisation so therefore we are talking about taxpayers' money.
The Cabinet and individual councillors need to be clear that a dynamic business plan is in place for the future of the theatre along with a set of objectives pertaining to how the wider community of Morecambe will benefit in terms of economic development.
The Cabinet needs to undertake an objective overview of the implications of directing such a large amount of money into a
theatre which must be maintained, managed and financially sustained.
Questions regarding risk analysis need to be asked, followed by an objective assessment taking on board the short, mid and long-term financial implications.
Cabinet risks losing a number of opportunities that could have enhanced the regeneration of Morecambe but instead it promotes a scheme that might be populist on the surface but in reality is a financial risk.
