I WOULD like to suggest to the negative correspondents that they go back into their obviously short memories and reflect on how the Midland Hotel looked before restoration.
It is now stunning and a credit to all concerned, who should be thanked for renovating it and putting Morecambe back on the map – giving us a much-needed boost.

It was also disappointing to see such a negative and unconstructive effort by a counci
llor in the Arndale Centre to point out the faults in the new Promenade plans but not mentioning any of the benefits.

Instead of dismissing the whole thing let's give the designers and planners a chance to find a compromise which suits the majority.

We should be very grateful that people are keen to invest in our town and have already 'put their money where their mouths are'.

Also, the walk from Heysham to the Clock Tower is almost unrecognisable. The new promenade is very impressive, the new sand a bonus and the play areas at the West End and West End Gardens sympathetically planted and landscaped.

The Stone Jetty is stunning, the area around the Clock Tower is looking good, and new water features and lights on different parts of the prom look so lovely.

We must also thank all the new businesses which have had the confidence to invest in our area not forgetting the established businesses which have served us well over the years and have managed to survive the bad times.

There are still some 'grot spots' – the 'top grot' must be the old Harbour band arena and the land around Bubbles – but, just a minute, isn't that covered by the new plan?

the urban splash plan to turn our promenade into a housing development should not be allowed in any way shape or form ,the councellor in your letter fights tooth and nail for morecambe at every oppertunity but not for this stupid idea, keep our prom as it is, just make a park where the band arena is .
