Ernie would not reward the effort

AS much as I think a statue of Ernie Wise would be a good idea, a much better one would be to have Thora Hird sitting on a bench with room for another person – a member of the public – to sit next to her, probably sited nearer to the West End.
I'm sure the shops on Regent Road and Yorkshire Street would be pleased about that.

I don't think a statue of Ernie would attract any more people to Morecambe than already come to see Eric.

A bench with Thora sitting on it would be lovely, especially with space enough to sit beside her. There is something of that nature in the shopping centre in Burnley, but of an anonymous Lancashire woman of bygone days.
