Disappointed to be turned away

GIVEN the level of interest in the Midland Hotel, we thought your readers would like to know that we travelled up from Ipswich, Suffolk, on a train tour to Lancaster specifically to see The Midland, but we were denied entry at 2pm by the hotel's 'security' as the entire
property was closed that afternoon for the exclusive use of the 'Friends' ahead of that evening's reception.
We attempted to explain to 'security' that we are members of 'The 20th Century Society' and a past owner of an Oliver Hill property in Frinton-on-Sea, Essex, but he totally refused to seek out the manager so we could present our case. 'Security' also refused entry to a former member of the hotel's staff from the 1950s who had travelled some distance to view the property.
Lastly, I have to say that the 'Friends' entering the building did not think fit to intervene on our behalf.
Needless to say we will never return again to the Midland or Morecambe as we believe that this elitist and non-inclusive behaviour is totally unacceptable in this day and age (particularly as public monies have been involved in the restoration).
We do hope you will publish our letter as we are both senior citizens and spent more than £100 each on fare money, hence our intense
disappointment!
