A change of party but not of values

I WAS appalled to read recently in The Visitor a communication
asking if coun Keith Sowden would stand down, signed by Susan Bray.
There are a few councillors with some intellect on Lancaster City Council and Mr Sowden is high on that list. I was instrumental, I think, in getting Mr Sowden elected in Overton on a Conservative ticket and I am certain those electors in Overton kne
w a good man when they saw one.

I do hope this view has not changed.

At the same time of his success I divided my time between him and June Ashworth (Independent) in Bare who, with my little help, was also elected.

At the time I was a paid-up member of the Conservative party but I would not pay my membership to Morecambe, preferring the more suitable office in Lancaster.

Leading on from that election the Conservatives took umbrage at the election of June Ashworth obtaining the seat with my help (and I had a confrontation on the night with the MP Ben Wallace on the subject).

From that confrontation I immediately resigned from the party and subsequently received a communication from said MP that he was instigating actions to seek my expulsion from the party.
Too late I'm afraid.

I should have said earlier that Keith is my nephew which never has had and never will have any influence in what I think of him as a man of honour.

I failed three times to enter the local council, wanting to make things better and should I have been successful, I would have voted in exactly the same way Keith did.

Good luck Keith, you will always have my support as I hope you will have from the good folk in Overton
