AS THE season heads to an exciting climax, there were several important matches in the Lancaster Honda North Lancashire League on Saturday.
Storeys came out on top after a ttianic battle with Ingleton in the Adam and Gaskell Senior Challenge Cup semi-final.
The game started off in bright sunshine and ended in a blizzard of hail snow and a biting wind.
Storeys took an early lead w
hen Gareth Turner's shot took a deflection and found the net.
Ingleton tried to fight back but the excellent Gary McGonnall made it 2-0 before half-time.
Chris Bibby gave Ingleton a lifeline but two goals from Martin Lewis all but sealed the game for Storeys.
Ingleton didn't throw in the towel and they managed to force the ball over the line with 10 minutes left to make it 4-2.
They hit the woodwork twice late on but Storeys survived and will play Morecambe Goopes in the final.
In the Premier Division, Torrisholme were relegated following a 3-0 defeat at Swarthmoor, Graham Wilcox (2) and John Bell scoring.
Also relegated to Division One are Slyne-with-Hest (LCC).
Cartmel played outstandingly well to beat in-form Highgrove 2-1. The result could have gone either way as both sides attacked at every opportunity.
Galgate's manager Chris Stobbart ended his rein on a happy note as his side beat Morecambe Royals 2-0.
Galgate got the reakthrough in the second half when they were awarded a controversial penalty scored by Steve McMinn.
Galgate took control when veteran Luke Vallente volleyed into the back of the net.
In Division One, the match of the day turned out to be a damp squib as leaders Bentham were shot down by new leaders Morecambe Hoops.
They thumped Bentham for the second time, again scoring five times.
Hoops had the game won inside the opening 20 minutes with goals from Aaron Simpson, Alan Shanks and an own goal after a Dean Threlfall corner.
Shanks added another after the break but the most memorable goal came when goalkeeper John Boothroyd kicked the ball the length of the pitch and over the head over opposite number Richard Mason.
Halton Rangers had a tricky fixture at Morecambe Royals Reserves.
Rangers played really well in the first half and scored three goals through Warren Goodwin and Steve Hay (2).
The second half saw a big transformation as Royals rallied with Adam Campbell scoring an excellent goal to make it 3-1.
Aidan Dunphy hit the bar before finding the net to make it 3-2 but they were unable to find an equaliser.
The local derby between Marsh United Reserves and Boys Club ended in a 1-1 draw with both sides missing chances. Jordan Sparks scored for Marsh and Paul Muckalt replying.
Cartmel Reserves got off to an excellent start when an Ingleton Reserves defender put the ball into his own net.
Cartmel produced some quick counter-attacks which brought goals for Richard Spendlove and an excellent brace by Stuart Taylor. Ingleton replied with Lea Lambert scoring a good goal.
In Division Two, the match of the day was between promotionfavourites, Highgrove Reserves and Bowerham.
Highgrove started like an express train, playing some brilliant football, and they went into the lead through Aiden Higgins.
Things got better for Highgrove when top scorer Peter Myerscough and Joe Oldrieve made it 3-0 before half-time.
Bowerham had more of the play in the second half and Matthew Buczynski got two goals back.
The final whistle could not come soon enough as Bowerham threw everything at Highgrove, who managed to hold on in an excellent game of football.
Bolton-le-Sands are now outsiders for promotion and against Morecambe Cricket Club they had to dig deep to win 3-2.
Alex Batson, Curtis Ward and Mark Smith scored for Sands while MCC replied with goals by Anthony Turner and veteran John Cassidy.
Furness Rovers made light work of beating an under strength Middleton side with goals from Will Lowe, Andy McDermott and Chris Wise.
Torrisholme Reserves are relegated to Division Three after suffering a heavy 6-3 defeat at Kirkby Lonsdale Reserves. Sam Hadwin opened the scoring follwed by Nathan Jackson with a brilliant hat-trick, Ben Taylor and an own goal. Torrisholme did manage to get on the scoresheet with goals by William Swan-Bell and Joel Crookes.
Freehold FC travelled to play Swarthmoor Reserves and were soon 2-0 up through Jimmy Watters and Gary Davis.
Swarthmoor were in the game at half-time at 3-2, Liam Morgan scoring for Freehold, but an Ian Palwankar hat-trick, Phil Busehll, Alan Davis and another for Gary Davis saw them roun out 9-3 victors.
Bolton-le-Sands Reserves are Division Three champions after beating Grange Reserves 7-2 – but will only be promotion if their first team go up.
Sands were on top from the start with young Nicholas Pidcock scoring a superb hat-trick, father David weighed in with two and Mark Brown and James Davies scoring the others.
Millhead Reserves had no answer to the direct approach of the Galgate Reserves side that deserved its easy 4-1 win.
Daryl Hardman, Richard Cragg and Steven Craney (2) scored for Galgate while Michael Reghilini got a late consolation.
Squires were promoted from Division Four but will have to wait for Halton Rangers Reserves' results to see if they are champions.
Against Gregson Reserves, Squires stormed into a 3-0 lead and then switched off as Gregson replied through David Hughes and Paul Tunstall but Squires hung on.
Bentham Reserves are making a late surge to try and take third position, a Matthew Lister goal earning them a win over Burton Thistle Reserves.
