Take your pick – have we got festivals for you
IF music is your world, then what planet are you on?
That's the question being asked by Morecambe music promoter Steve Middlesbrough, as he prepares to unleash a series of festivals with something for just about every possible taste in music.
Steve and his Kalimba promotions group have announced a series of music festivals for the coming months covering the genres of country, jazz, Motown, soul, blues, modern guitar bands, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s.
First on the list is 'Motown Magic', coming to four local venues from May 1 to May 4.
DJ Tony Crookes and Steve himself will spin classic soul tunes at Ma Murphy's (May 1), The Globe at Overton (May 2), The County at Carnforth (May 3) and Hustle in Lancaster (May 4).
Next up is scheduled to be Country Kickback at Happy Mount Park, expected to take place from May 23 to 25. This will be an outdoor festival featuring the best in country music.
Parklife on June 8 will be a one-day festival at Williamson Park, Lancaster, where young bands will get the chance to play live. This festival will be launched with live music every first Friday of the month at The Lounge, Lancaster, starting on June 6 with six bands appearing.
Among those signed up to perform on the Sunday are Idol Minds, Car Crash Hero, One Chip Potato and Kr!ss Foster.
The second annual BluesWater blues festival will come to Ma Murphy's (June 26), The Imperial (June 27) and a venue TBA on June 28 with a line-up of some top quality blues musicians from all over the UK.
Then the third annual Morecambe Jazz festival is pencilled in for Happy Mount Park from July 3 to 6.
Kalimba is also involved in the Tutti Frutti 50s festival, organised by Poulton Neighbourhood Management, on July 25 and 26 at The Carleton and The Platform.
And the Lancaster Soul Festival will bring soulful tunes to Williamson Park and other venues on the bank holiday weekend of August 29 to 31.
In addition, Kalimba will present 'The Decade Retro Series' with music nights dedicated to every decade from the 50s to the 90s at locations throughout the district.
Each Kalimba festival this year will be supporting a different local charity.

l A tribute to Buddy Holly will headline Kalimba's 'Jukebox Jive' night at the Jubilee Club in Morecambe on Friday, May 23. Buddy Holly impersonator Craig Martin will recreate all the hits from the legendary 50s star from 7.30pm to midnight. There will also be DJs playing other 50s music.
