A GROUP of soul music devotees in Morecambe will celebrate their fifth anniversary this Saturday (December 13).
The Seaside Soul Club will present their trademark top evening of soulful music at Smokey O'Connor's on Morecambe Street starting at 8pm through until 1pm.
When a group of avid soul fans who had toured the length and breadth of the UK enjoying their soul music were drawn together at a meeting at the Upstairs Downstairs pub in August 2003, they never imagined that they would be celebrating their fifth anniversary in 2008.
One of those die-hards, Jason Mills, said: "Morecambe as a soul town has pedigree and is well-respected within the soul scene.
"The Central Pier concerts and classic 'all niters' throughout the 80s became the shrine for hundreds of the country's Northern Soul fans, it was not to be missed.
"Morecambe hosted many a top act including Prince Philip Mitchell, Tavares and Gene Chandler and the nations finest DJs including leading spinners Richard Searling Brian Rae and Steve Whittle to name but a few.
"Over the last 20 years soul nights have come and gone but The Seaside Soul Club has established itself as the premier monthly soul night in North Lancashire and in particular in a rejuvenated resort in Morecambe.
"The club has gone from strength to strength over the last five years and has had some quality guest DJs appear on the Seaside Soul decks."
At Smokey O'Connors this Saturday however, the chaps will be trying to
recreate that special soul sound and with what many describe as the finest dance floor around.
This will be a top evening of soulful music from the Northern Soul sounds of the great soul venues of the 60s and 70s through to the latest soulful dance sounds.
You will enjoy a top evening's entertainment in a special atmosphere with your Club DJs from the last five years Charlie, Tim, Duffs, Sean T, Larry, Tony, Si, Jason and Sean O.
The admission price is £2.
Also in the New Year, club DJ Sean O'Connor will host the two-hour national radio show 'The Sunday Soul Selection on Solar Radio.
