Sugar Ray visit cancelled

A boxing legend’s appearance at Lancaster and Morecambe College has been called off.

Sugar Ray Leonard’s visit on Sunday, March 17 has been cancelled due to contractual problems.

The American superstar, a five-weight former world champion, was due to speak at a dinner at the college’s sports hall.

Promoter Frank Harrington apologised and said: “We just couldn’t agree to some of the demands.”

Mr Harrington has instead organised his next night of ‘white-collar’ boxing for the Winter Gardens in Morecambe on Saturday, March 30.

Boxers fighting on the bill include Martin Baird, who will box for the UKBA Middleweight Title, Adam Lund, Steve Douglas, Lee Phillips, Tom Craddock and exhibition contests featuring young boxers from Frank’s West End Road gym.

For tickets, call Frank on 07789 261768.
