Storey future looks bright

The future for The Storey in Lancaster is looking bright with Lancaster

Visitor Information Centre reporting a 4% increase in visitors since it moved back to the building in October last year.

Lancaster’s Visitor Information Centre (VIC) has recorded more than 4,700 people visiting the centre (a 4% rise in comparison to 2011) and despite the inclement weather, December saw an 1% increase with customers stocking up on popular Christmas hampers.

Ticket sales for shows and events at The Dukes and The Platform as well as Lancashire Museum Explorer tickets, National Theatre tokens and Lancaster Cathedral passes are also popular.

From February this year the choice of tickets will extend to events at Lancaster Castle including its popular guided tours. The year 2013 will see a wide range of events taking place at the building, including cookery master classes, workshops, plays and exhibitions.

Next month the gallery at The Storey will host Facing North, a major exhibition of work by 50 northern-based artists.

The exhibition will run from February 8 to March 9, 2013.

Coun Janice Hanson, cabinet member with responsibility for regeneration, said: “It’s fantastic news to see The Storey so popular and offering a wealth of events.”

Lancaster City Council took possession of The Storey building in October 2012 as a result of the leaseholder, Storey Creative Industries Centre Ltd (SCIC Ltd) going into liquidation.
