Panic at petrol stations

PETROL stations were forced to close as people panic bought petrol last week ahead of a possible strike by fuel tanker drivers.
And even when the Unite union, who deliver fuel to 90 per cent of the UK’s petrol stations, ruled out an Easter strike on Friday, pumps still ran dry over the weekend.
Sainsbury’s on Lancaster Road was shut at various points on Thursday, Friday and over the weekend, with Asda also having to close due to high demand on Friday.
Morrisons, the resort’s other supermarket petrol station, also experienced long queues as people dashed to fill up their tanks.
On Thursday, one Morrisons worker told The Visitor that the station forecourt had been “absolutely crazy” since early in the morning.
She said: “It’s been non-stop since 6am and people were queuing at 5.40am before we opened.”
