New Platform boss’ ambitious plans
THE new man at the helm of The Platform says he is relishing the challenge of running Morecambe’s main concert venue.
Jason Mills said he wants to make sure the converted railway station, home to some of the town’s biggest and best live events, remains key to the resort and the district as a whole.
Mr Mills, 43, has taken over as manager from Mary Lucas, who retired this month.
A Sand Grown ’un, he comes from a musical family. His father Peter Mills was a professional trumpet player who played locally and across the world during the big band era of the ’40s and ’50s, while his brother Gregory “Mouse” Mills was a well-respected drummer, musician and sound engineer.
He started work with Lancaster City Council in 1992 and comes to The Platform with a wealth of experience and knowledge in venue management.
Away from his job, Mr Mills is a parent governor at Sandylands School and is an avid supporter of Morecambe FC.
