Lothersdale Hotel director Paul Bury and general manager Ian Harrington with the three star award.

A family-run hotel has marked its 60th anniversary by acquiring three-star status.

The Lothersdale on Marine Road Central, operated by the Bury family since 1953, becomes only the third hotel in Morecambe to be classed as three stars or better.

The Midland has four stars and the Clarendon has three stars.

The Lothersdale was bought by William and Mary Bury in 1953 and is today run by their grandson, director Paul Bury. His cousin Ian Harrington is general manager.

The 45-bedroomed hotel is renowned for its popularity with out-of-town coach parties.
