Drivers must have thought they were ‘down under’ whilst travelling down Bare Lane as council workers put a 20mph sign on upside down.

The sign, situated at the junction of Bare Lane and Pemberton Drive in Bare, was erected last Monday morning but a short while later an eagle-eyed resident noticed it was the wrong way up.

The woman, who lives on Pemberton Drive, said: “What a bloody waste of money! I’m pleased they are making it a 20mph zone but we just found this so funny.”

The 20mph sign on the other side of the road was put up correctly at the end of last month.

Paul Binks, Road and Transport Safety Manager at Lancashire Countyn Council, said: “We’re looking into how this came about but our best guess at the moment is that it was a prank.”

The sign was put the right way round last week.
