ONE Lancaster sports fanatic is doing her bit at the Olympic Games in London, as a volunteer.

Janet Silverwood, a personal trainer who has taught exercise classes at Salt Ayre for nearly 20 years, is helping guide spectators,
officials and athletes around the Basketball Arena at the Olympic Park in Stratford.

The 44-year-old, whose day job is working in customer services for BT on Cawthorne Street, Lancaster, is one of 300 employees from the telecoms giant across the country who have been selected as Games Makers, as the army of volunteers at London 2012 are known.

Janet, of Torrisholme Road, Lancaster, who has been to five test events over the last two years, said: “It is an amazing feeling to know that I am making a contribution to the biggest sporting event in the world.

“It’s a great honour to be able to say that I have played a very small part in an Olympic Games.”
