Go Morecambe team keen to add new buzz

A new committee wants to attract money into Morecambe and be the ‘voice of the community’.

Go Morecambe is made up of eight local people who want to put on events in the town and rally people behind them to regenerate Morecambe.

Its members are landlady Christine Stebbing, security boss Brendan Hughes, Morecambe Heritage Bus owner David Lord, caterer Debbie Cain, Mark Clements from the Trimpell Club, training expert Hazel Clempner, events supplier Brian Bromiley and Tracy Brown, a Morecambe town councillor.

Mr Hughes, head of ICU Security, said: “We want to bring all community groups together under one voice, to interact with the council.

“We want to spur the townsfolk on and fight on their behalf.

“I don’t think most people around here think they are listened to or even considered. We want to represent them.”

Mrs Stebbing, a former Morecambe town councillor, said: “We’ve got a wide range of experience and we think we can attract grants and investment to the town.”

Go Morecambe is a community interest company which aims to put on festivals in the traditional  Morecambe Arena space near the former Dome site.

They also have plans to host a world music event at Lancaster and Morecambe College and have a long-term aim of finding money to open a major attraction on Morecambe promenade. Go Morecambe will host a launch meeting at the Trimpell Club, Out Moss Lane this Friday (February 1) at 7pm.
