Fund launched to help support organisations
A NEW fund worth nearly £300,000 has been launched to provide help and support to some of the district’s voluntary, community, faith and arts organisations.
The Take Pride Community Fund has been established to support organisations to help them develop, work together and become more sustainable in the long-term.
Coun Eileen Blamire, leader of Lancaster City Council, said: “There is much good work already taking place within the individual communities of our district and the council’s Take Pride campaign aims to help strengthen this work by identifying opportunities for growth.
“I am very proud that we are able to offer this support and hope this contribution can enable them to develop and maintain their important work and services.”
Coun Jon Barry, Cabinet member with responsibility for the voluntary sector, added: “Many voluntary organisations are feeling the pinch at the moment.
“In an environment of cuts, it is nice to be able to offer some good news.”
The fund is open to organisations in relevant sectors to help to:
* Provide support to other front-line organisations in these sectors
* Renovate and improve premises and accommodation
* Support the co-ordination and expansion of volunteering
* Help organisations become more efficient, effective and financially sustainable in the long term.
The majority of the funds must be used by March 2013, and the deadline for submitting an interest in applying for some of the funding is 5pm, on September 17.
