Eric Morecambe sports festive jumper

The beloved statue of legendary funny man Eric Morecambe has been pictured sporting eye catching festive knitwear.

The 6ft 6inch effigy of the late comic on the promenade in Morecambe Bay has been seen in a bright red jumper emblazoned with a Christmas tree,

while balancing in the iconic ‘bring me sunshine’ pose ahead of Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day which was on Friday, December 14.

The statue of the comedian, who took his stage name from his hometown, has been an iconic local landmark since it was unveiled by the Queen in 1999.

It was one of seven cast iron and bronze statue across Britain to join more than 700,000 people across the UK taking part in the Save the Children campaign to help ‘make the world better with a sweater’ and raise money for its life saving work.

All of the statues have been pictured supporting Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day, which asks the British public to donate £1 to help raise money for its life-saving work both in the UK and across the world.

In the world’s poorest countries, more than seven million children die every year from easily preventable causes like diarrhoea and malnutrition and simple solutions can help save their lives.
