Ex-Shrimp Perkins pitches in
David Perkins cuts the ribbon on the new 3G pitch at Morecambe Community High School as pupils and head teacher John McNaughton look on.
Pupils at a Morecambe school got an early Christmas present when a Championship footballer came to open the school’s new artificial sports pitch.
David Perkins, current Barnsley and ex-Morecambe defender, cut the ribbon on Morecambe Community High School’s new state-of-the-art synthetic ‘3G’ play area.
David, a former pupil at the school, then presented trophies at a sponsored penalty shoot-out competition for Children in Need, followed by a tournament for all Year 7 forms. The pitch, funded entirely by the school, will be used by students and is also available for local clubs and organisations to hire.
“The positive response of our students today is echoed throughout the school and the acquisition of a superb floodlit pitch can only enhance the already brilliant sporting achievements at Morecambe Community High,” said John McNaughton, head teacher.
