Charity night for breast cancer research

A woman whose sister-in-law died of cancer is holding a special event to raise funds for breast cancer research.

Andrea Pearson’s sister-in-law Suzanne Maloney, died in July aged just 35.

Suzanne was diagnosed with breast cancer seven years ago and was told the cancer had spread to her bones in 2007 but went ahead with a planned 30th birthday bash in Barcelona soon after.

The following year, she took on a mammoth charity trek along the Great Wall of China and, in 2009, she enjoyed a fairytale wedding day with her partner Ray.

Fellow cancer patient Vanessa Love, 38, said: “While in hospital she would get out of her bed, while unwell herself, to help fellow cancer patients.”

Suzanne’s husband Ray, 38, paid tribute to his wife.

He said: “Suzanne was dedicated to both fundraising and raising awareness of cancer.

“By sheer guts and determination, Suzanne would never let anyone down and made sure she was always there to help raise funds for cancer charities.”

Suzanne, who worked as a training and development co-ordinator, raised more than £10,000.

More than £2,000 has so far been raised in her memory.

Now, sister-in-law Andrea, from Heysham, has organised a special Breast Cancer Research Christmas shopping night at St James’ Centre, Heysham Road, Morecambe, on Friday, November 9, between 7pm and 9pm.

She said: “I just wanted to keep the ball rolling and raise more funds.”

On the night, buy jewellery, sweets and chocolate gifts, personalised goods, accessories, childrens clothes, books and much more.

For a small £5 charity donation get a relaxing hand massage or mini makeover by The Bodyshop.

There will also be a raffle, with prizes including a signed Morecambe Football Club shirt.

Refreshments will also be available. Call Andrea Pearson on 07837 686884.
