Angry residents oppose extended hours

RESIDENTS near McDonald's on Morecambe Road say their lives will be made even more of a misery if the fast food outlet is allowed to extend its opening hours.
The store is currently open until 10pm at night but wants to extend opening hours to 6am to midnight Sunday to Wednesday and 6am to 4am Thursday to Saturday.

However, one angry woman who lives directly opposite the fast food outlet says residents already experience noise and nuisance from motorists on the car park, people use the car park as a public toilet, food and rubbish is discarded in nearby gardens, and some properties on Norwood Drive have had food thrown at their windows.

Suzanne Smith, who has lived on Morecambe Road for two years, said: "The current hours are sufficient.

"The residents are bitterly opposed to the hours being extended."

A spokesperson for McDonald's said: "Based on our experience of other similar locations, we have every reason to believe that opening for longer at our Morecambe Road restaurant will be popular with our customers.

"If our application is granted, we are only planning to open the Drive Thru at this particular restaurant after 11pm."

Objections to the application have to be lodged with Lancaster City Council by April 24.

Mighty Mouse,

Open until 4am, absolute madness.

As an ex-resident I'm all for giving business and retail in Morecambe every advantage and encouragement but I feel sorry for the residents on this one.

Come on Vis, start a Campaign on this one or least change your poll to ask what people think.

As we move towards a 24hr culture obviously places like McDonalds will stay open 24hrs. As always those who shout the loudest are the ones that moved in after the business was already there.

Some people are trapped in a position where they need every hours work they can get to feed their babies!
Now who would complain about that?

DiggerDriver, I've been watching your comments for some time now and I have to say I have never found one thing I could agree with you on.

I have to say it would be fun to have a few beers with you, whilst listening to you putting the world to rights.

Huh! Pint? Have you seen how much they cost these days? And when are we going to get a nice day? And look at these shoes, I've only had 'em a fortnight and they've worn right through. And if you complain it gets you nowhere and I'm sick and tired of this town...
